In this weeks reading, another very
intriguing character was introduced. His name is
Cyfi 1/8 of his brain is that of an unwind. Lev meets
Cyfi on his travels and finds out that he is a brilliant
schemer and does much to help Lev survive. But back to the point, the most interesting thing about Cy is that he is part unwind. This
provids some interesting
discussion about the book. What symbolism could be
interpreted by this new addition to the plot?
Although the author tells us that Unwinding has become a
widely accepted
concept he also stresses the fact that many people are very
disturbed by it. For example, Connor and Risa are involved with a huge plot to save run away unwinds. Why would this exist if there were no people around who apposed Unwinding? But the reason why it is so protested is not just because it is
immoral, but also because of the effects it has on is
patients.
That brings me back to
Cyfi. Part of his brain is made from an unwind but the effects go deeper than you would think.
Cyfi has taken on some of the boys thoughts feelings, and emotions including his addiction to shoplifting.
Cyfi hates himself because he is driven to do things that are not part of his personal qualities. As you can see the effects of this concept are much more complex than the unwinds life. It also
penetrates the lives of the people getting
their peaces.
Finally this leads me to the big question of the reading, Do you think that Unwinding was
beneficial to
Cyfi? Why? or why not? My answer is no, Because of this he has had to suffer more than he could ever
imagine and the things that he was
driven to do by his unwind may end up lead him to his extermination.
